Victorian Era
The 'Victorian era' was actually a period in time, namely during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901. The architecture of that period is found all over the world today. Many of these fine buildings and houses are now heritage sites for all to enjoy.
Cape Town, South Africa, has some of the finest examples around! Although the style in South Africa is well known, it does differ slightly from many parts of the world. See our growing gallery.
Classic Castings has obtained many of the original cast iron samples from those victorian days. Most cannot be traced to the original foundry but a few items are from the well known MacFarlane foundry in Scotland. Sadly, a lot of these fine examples were lost during the second world war.
An example is the Rondebosch drinking water fountain situated at the corner of Main and Belvedere Roads, Rondebosch. This has for many years been a popular spot for the colourful local flower sellers.

However, in those days the fountain was used as a drinking trough for the horses which were used to pull the heavy carts of the day.
Another similar type of fountain can be found in Mowbray, Cape Town, South Africa. Do you know what street it is in? Please email info@classiccasting.co.za if you know the answer?
